2014 Dierberg Syrah, Dierberg Vineyard, SMV
WINEMAKER NOTES It is a treat to have this small acre of Syrah at the Dierberg Vineyard. Cool climates, like Santa Maria Valley, in warmer vintages like 2014, can show a very exciting side of Syrah. Co-fermented with 5% Viognier to elevate floral aromatics and add a bit of pepper (through inclusion of Viognier stems), Syrah from this vineyard demonstrates a ripe blackberry quality with savory, almost roasted accents. One small fermenter of 100% Syrah but 50% stem inclusion was also used in the bled to add firmer structure to the richly oriented flavor profile. Aged in neutral barrels mostly because new oak adds little value to this type of Syrah there was very little we had to do to this wine other than offer patience.
